cultivation wednesday~ turkey talk

Thanksgiving is right around the corner for my American readers, and for most, this means gathering together with family and friends and eating our hearts out.  Most likely, along with mashed potatoes, gravy, cranberry sauce and pumpkin pie, comes a turkey.  Turkey will not be passing my lips, but there will be one in front of me.
Now, I'm not going to holler at you if you're partaking in turkey; that's your choice.  I just want to let you know about a really cool & fun thing you can participate in, whether you're eating turkey this year or not.
Farm Sanctuary is comprised of three different sanctuaries; one in New York, one in Northern California, and one in Southern California.  These farms serve as an oasis and safe haven for rescued animals.  For $30, you can "adopt" a turkey for the holiday!  Now, you don't actually get the turkey, but you get a little picture of your turkey, and a description of their personality, favorite foods, etc.  The money donated helps Farm Sanctuary stay in operation, and able to keep rescuing animals and educating and advocating for turkeys and other animals.
Below are seven different turkeys to choose from for adoption; I chose Martha (the last one pictured).  She's such a cutie, and likes apples and corn on the cob!  haha!  Martha was rescued from a live market just before Thanksgiving of 2012, and I'm so happy to see her wrinkly little face still alive and kicking! :)
I encourage you to click through to Farm Sanctuary's website and poke around a little more; they have tons more to look at; turkey trivia included!  Hope you all have a good hump day!
